Teatro Mistral’s 2023 Story

Once upon a time….

…there was a small DIY opera/theater company that dreamed of creating an intergalactic production of a verismo opera in a unique warehouse theater deeply embedded in the performing arts community of San Francisco after an epidemic unlike any other had shaken the soul of the city to its core.

So they found a unique space near 3rd St. in an up-and-coming corner of the city called Little Boxes Theater and took up residency there under the creative umbrella of the proprieters, Christina Linsky (Kitty) and Aaron Simunovich. And then they discovered that there were other exquisite artists in the community on 3rd st. who were willing to transform into the blue aliens of Lissia and fly through the thinning air and water on that dying planet to create the world we wanted to show….

And lo and behold, to our joy and amazement, a stage set formed under the skillful hands of Aaron and Kitty painted the deep blue alien faces and Anna Yanushkevich choreographed a magnificent aerial display and lights were set and planets appeared in the background as magnificent singers sang their opening notes while Paul Schrage’s skilled hands helmed the orchestra as it soared into the rafters.

And there was joy in the making and in the doing!
